Prague Private Guides
 .

The historical center is where most (but not all) of the beautiful architecture, museums, restaurants, tourist shopping and simply the "charm of Prague" are located. This is again divided into two sections, the "Castle area" and the "Old and New Town areas".

The Castle area, on the left side of the river (facing north) is where you will find the castle (the former residence of the kings), the Little Quarter (Mala Strana), the foreign embassies, the government of our country and more. The Old and New Town areas on the right side of the river (facing north) are home to the Jewish Quarter (Josefov), the Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square, the National Theater, the State Opera, the Estates Theater and more.

The oldest parts of Prague date back to about the 9th century when some of the oldest preserved structures were built. Most of historical Prague has recently been beautifully refurbished. We have had a very moving past with lots of destruction and pain due to disagreements over religion or power and many happy periods with lots of joy during the peaceful and productive stages of our history. They all left their mark.

Although the newer sections of Prague are quite modern, the historical center has retained it's charming and quaint past. Besides the obvious esthetic advantages, this also means cobble stone streets that are difficult to walk on (bring comfortable shoes) and not being able to get everywhere by a motorized vehicle due to lack of space.  Therefore, please be prepared to walk at least some.

Behind the facades of Prague

A walking tour

See Prague as few tourists get to see.  Go behind the facades.

After you are met at your hotel by your local expert, we take you through the Jewish Quarter showing you the most important buildings and give you the history.  From here we walk over to the famous Charles Bridge, built in 1357 by our beloved king, Charles IV and walk half way over the bridge to look at some of the most important buildings of Prague such as the Straka Academy, the seat of our government, the Prague Castle, St. Nicholas Church and more.

We return to the Old Town side of the city and continue “behind the facades” to the Havel Market, Wenceslas Square, Municipal House and the Power Tower to Old Town Square, where we take the elevator to the top of the Astronomical Clock Tower for the magnificent view, entrance fee included.

Return to your hotel or stay to explore on your own.

We walk approximately for 1.5 miles (2 km) and the duration is about 3 hours.

Rates from $120-$150 for 2 -18 people

Vintage Car Tour

Your English speaking driver of your vintage car meets you in the lobby of your centrally located hotel.  The cars are 1920-1945 original cars that have been lovingly restored.  They are Tatra and Skoda brands.  Then drive through the historical parts of Prague, riding past the Municipal House, the Powder Tower, Wenceslas Square, the Jewish Quarter, Old Time Square , the Astronomical Clock, Charles Bridge and more.  Your driver explains the sites as you slowly meander through the streets like people used to in the first part of the twentieth century.  What a ride!

Add a ride to the Prague Castle and through the Little Quarter (Lesser Town) to your itinerary for a 2 hour tour.

The cars can seat 3 - 8 people in addition to the driver.

One Hour $45 per person 2 Hours $80 per person

Prague above the river

First your professional, English speaking guides takes you up to the Prague Castle area by public transportation or the transport of your choice. You will go through this Hradcany district visiting the Loreta, the church with the Casa Santa and the Black Madonna, the Strahov monastery with it's famous baroque library, go past the Archbishops Palace and other interesting areas along the way to the castle. This area was first settled in the ninth century and was the home of the Czech kings and queens for many years. Now it houses the office of the president of the Czech Republic, several museums, and more. You will go inside the St. Vitus Cathedral, view the resting places of our St. Wenceslas and St. Nepomuk and admire the beauty of this grandiose cathedral dating back to 1344. Then you go inside the Royal Palace where the, for its time unusually large, Wladislav Hall is located. Then leave the palace and walk past the remnants of the first church here, built by Borivoj in 882, and down through the Little Quarter.   You then visit the Infant Jesus of Prague in the church of Our Lady the Victorious, where your tour ends.

Walking $140 Guide, driver & car for 2 $360. For up to six $385 Entry fees approx $30

Prague Jewish Quarter

Your professional, English speaking guide meets you in your hotel and takes you, via the vehicle of your choice, to the city center and Josefov, the Jewish Town.  Jewish presence has been recorded in Prague already in the 10th century.  During these one thousand or so years, Jews have been living, working, enjoying their life as well as suffering in this beautiful city. Many "pogroms" have decimated their ranks, the worse having come during the Nazi occupation of Prague, 1939-1945.  From the approximately 90,000 living here at the time, some 80,000 were killed by being sent to concentration camps such as Terezin and on to Auschwitz or simply by being worked to death. Josefov, the part of town which was traditionally Jewish, is a suburb by the river named after emperor Josef II and still called "Jewish Town".  Your tour includes a visit to the oldest synagogue in Europe (1270), the Old New Synagogue, the Jewish Museum which includes the Klaus and Maisl synagogues, the Pinkas synagogue with the approximately 80,000 names of the victims of the holocaust inscribed on the wall, the Old Jewish Cemetery and more.  The museum includes many precious Jewish artifacts collected over generations mostly from European Jews.    After the "Velvet Revolution" in 1989, many Jews have returned and keep on coming. The Jewish heritage sites have been beautifully rebuilt, refurbished and reopened to the public.

Guide only $140. Guide, driver and car $360. Guide driver & cars up to 6 guests $385
