DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY: Vienna to Bucharest

Day 1: Vienna, Austria

Arrive in Vienna and transfer to the ship for welcome cocktails and dinner. Overnight aboard the MS Amadeus Diamond in the Vienna harbor.  D

Day 2: Vienna
Take a city tour of Vienna and back to the ship to enjoy lunch onboard. The afternoon is at your leisure to discover more of Vienna on your own. Prior to embarkation your Danube River mood is set by a classical music performance onboard.  B,L,D

Day 3: Budapest, Hungary

Take a city tour of Budapest, the “Queen of the Danube,” including the castle district. The afternoon is at your leisure. Depart in the evening as you experience the beauty and lights of “Budapest by Night.”  B,L,D

Day 4: Kalocsa, Hungary

Excursion to the Hungarian Puszta with lunch at a traditional horse farm with horse show entertainment. Your evening entertainment is an operetta program onboard. B,L,D

Day 5: Osijek, Croatia and the River Drava

Take a city tour of Osijek before touring through the Croatian Danube Basin to visit a famous vineyard near Vukovar where you’ll taste some delightful wines. B,L,D

Day 6: Belgrade / Kostolac, Serbia

Your city tour of Belgrade includes a visit to the Kalamegdan Fortress. Board a bus to Viminacium, a former Roman settlement complete with Roman baths, dress and a museum. Reboard your ship in Kostolac for an evening of Serbian folk music onboard. B,L,D

Day 7: River Cruising

Spend the day cruising the river, passing the famous Iron Gate, the most attractive stretch of the Danube. B,L,D

Day 8: Svistov / Rousse, Bulgaria

Today’s excursions are to Veliko Tarnovo with its unique architecture and Arbanassi, known for its Bulgarian National Revival architecture. Travel by bus to Rousse to reboard your ship. In the afternoon sail for Somova with lectures on the Danube Delta flora and fauna from a specialist. This evening is the Captain's farewell toast and dinner. B,L,D

Day 9: Somova / Hirsova, Romania

After an early breakfast, take an excursion of the Delta stopping in Saun for a second breakfast at the nunnery there. Travel by bus to Constanta and the Black Sea for lunch at the Hotel Rex.  Take a city tour of Constanta and visit Murfatlar, one of Romania’s best-known vineyards for wine tasting.  B,L,D

Day 10: Hirsova / Bucharest, Romania

Transfer to Bucharest by bus. Enjoy lunch and take a city tour of Bucharest, where you'll overnight. B,L,D

Day 11: Bucharest / Home

Transfer to the airport for your return flight home or continue on to your Transylvania Post-Cruise Program. B

Day 1:  Bucharest, Romania
Arrive in Bucharest and transfer to the hotel for welcome briefing and dinner. Overnight at the hotel.  D

Day 2: Hirsova / Bucharest, Romania  
Take a city tour of Bucharest including lunch. Transfer to Hirsova to board the MS Amadeus Diamond . Join your fellow travelers for a Welcome Toast, a lecture on the Danube Delta flora and fauna and dinner.  Depart in the late evening. B,L,D

Day 3:
Somova / Hirsova, Romania

Day 8:

Bucharest to Vienna Post-Cruise Land Tour

Day 1 – Vienna to Prague      Disembark your ship and transfer to Prague for dinner and overnight at the luxury boutique Hotel Le Palais Prague. BD

Day 11: Bucharest / Transylvania
Check out of your hotel and board buses for a 2.5-hour ride to Sinaia in the Carpathian Mountains. Visit the impressive Peles Castle.  Built between 1873 and 1914 and shaped like a Bavarian castle, Peles Castle is unique for the quality of its woodwork and extraordinary interiors richly decorated and furnished. Continue on to Azuga and visit the Rhein wine cellars for tasting and lunch. Your trip will continue across the mountains to the legendary Transylvania with dinner and wine tasting, plus a folklore show at the Carpathian Stag Restaurant.  Overnight in Brasov at the 5-star Aro Palace Hotel. Day 12: Sighisoara /Brasov
After breakfast, journey to Sighisoara, a lovely medieval place, one of the last inhabited fortresses in Europe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Dracula’s birthplace. Visit either a wine cellar or a handicraftsman’s workshop before lunch in a local restaurant. See the citadel and its highlights: the 14th century Clock Tower, the Evangelical Church,
and the roofed stairway. Return to Brasov to overnight at the Aro Palace Hotel. BL

Day 13: Brasov/ Sinaia
After breakfast take a city tour of Brasov followed by a guided walking tour through the city center.  Founded in the 12th century by Saxon colonists, Brasov is still filled with Saxon heritage.  It features a gothic and baroque city center with its massive Black Church, the Council Square with its old townhouse and the pedestrian area.  Your tour will also feature a stop  at the oldest Romanian school at St. Nicholas Church. See the spectacular medieval Bran Castle (Dracula’s Castle).  Enjoy a traditional lunch in a local farmhouse or restaurant and continue on to Sinaia in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at one of the 4-star hotels in Sinaia.  BLD

Day 14: Bucharest
Transfer to the airport for your return flight home. B

Transylvania Pre-Cruise Land Tour  71D

Day 1:  Bucharest, Romania
Arrive in Bucharest where comfortable buses will take you northwards to Sinaia in the Carpathian Mountains, approximately 2 hours away.  Check in at one of the fine 4-star hotels for dinner and overnight. D

Day 2: Sighisoara / Brasov
After breakfast, continue across the mountains to legendary Transylvania – the “Land Beyond the Forests.” Travel to Sighisoara – a lovely medieval place, one of the last inhabited fortresses in Europe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Dracula’s birthplace. Lunch in a local restaurant and visit the citadel and its highlights: the 14th century Clock Tower, the Evangelical Church, and the roofed stairway. Travel to Brasov in the late afternoon and visit a wine cellar or a handicraftsman’s workshop. Enjoy dinner and wine tasting, plus a folklore show at the Carpathian Stag Restaurant.  Overnight in Brasov at the 5-star Aro Palace Hotel.  BLD

Day 3: Brasov
